Dr. Greg Kopf isthe Chief Scientific Officer at Sacyl Pharmaceuticals.
Greg has 40 years of experience in the academic, pharmaceutical and non-profit sectors. He is a reproductive biologist with basic scientific research interests in gametogenesis, sperm function, fertilization and early pre‐implantation development, and translational and clinical interests in both contraception and infertility. Some of his basic research focused on the function of a “unique” sperm adenylyl cyclase in regulating various sperm functions prior to its molecular characterization as ADCY10 by the Levin/Buck lab. His lab subsequently collaborated with the Levin/Buck lab in early biological studies of ADCY10.
Greg previously served as Director, Research & Development for Product Development & Introduction at FHI 360, an international NGO in Durham, North Carolina where he managed a preclinical and clinical portfolio of hormonal female contraceptive products with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, USAID and the NICHD. Prior to FHI 360, Greg was the Associate Vice Chancellor for Research Administration at the University of Kansas School of Medicine (KUMC), the Executive Director of the KUMC Research Institute, Inc., and Research Professor of Molecular & Integrative Physiology at KUMC. In this capacity he was responsible for the management of the administrative, regulatory, legal, business development and financial activities of the medical center research enterprise. Prior to coming to KUMC, Greg served as both Assistant Vice President and Vice President of Discovery, Women’s Health & Bone at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, managing the discovery efforts in contraception, menopause, reproductive disorders, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, and urinary incontinence. Greg’s basic research and clinical work in infertility was carried out at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine where he was the Celso Ramon Garcia Professor of Reproductive Biology in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Associate Director of Penn’s Center for Research in Reproduction & Women’s Health.
Greg obtained his B.A. (Biology) at The College of Wooster, his Ph.D. (Physiology) in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, and completed his postdoctoral training at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UCSD. He has served on boards of directors/scientific advisory committees for several non‐profit and for‐profit organizations/businesses and was a member of the National Advisory Child Health and Human Development Council of the NICHD.
